KissBox and Stage Management

Benum Integrators in Norway commissioned Rapenburg Plaza in Amsterdam to design, supply and install a new KissBox Stagemanagement system for both the large and middle Auditorium of the prestigious new Opera house in Oslo. The system was installed during the 1st quarter of 2008 and premiered on the 20th of April. Based on ethernet driven Showcontrol software the newly installed Stagemanagement system introduces a revolutionary new way of looking at the Stagemanagers workplace. A combination of Network servers and KissBox protocol transceivers can communicate with a Stagemanagers desk with programmable LCD buttons and P&G Belt-faders. The large Auditorium has the desk incorporated into the Left stage tower, in the middle Auditorium the desk is mobile due to the flexible usage of this Auditorium. Supplementary wireless panels can be used for mobile control in both Auditoriums. The system provides the Stagemanager all needed control over, and interaction with, the equipment used during rehearsals and performances. Controlled devices are, amongst others: Cue-light system, Sound and Lighting control desks, CD and HD Players, Video Switchers, remote controlled Stage Camera’s, Video recording equipment, Work and Blue lights, Clear-Com communication, Public Address Systems, Stage-Power outlets, Main Curtain, Hearing Impaired systems and Black-Out control. Another novelty are the 30 mobile Ethernet Cue-Light boxes. Rapenburg Plaza specially designed these boxes which not only incorporate the standard Red and Green cue-lights and acknowledge button, but also have advanced power and relay switching and a Cue number display for the Showcontrol playlist. Cuelight boxes can be used throughout the stage area and any other place that has a network connection to the main system. The Showcontrol feature is probably the most advanced part of the KissBox Stagemanagement system. By means of a comprehensive user interface the Stagemanager has the possibility to create Cues and Cuelists that can be run during rehearsals and performances by the simple push of a button, allowing him/her to automate crucial and complex parts of his/her work. All of the Hardware, Firmware, Software and Furniture have been designed, produced and manufactured by Rapenburg Plaza. The Control Software has been based on the Medialon Manager Suite.
